Moroccan University Called Upon to Play Major Role within framework of New Development Model (CESE Head)
The university must be placed at the heart of the territorial ecosystem in order to develop a new approach to higher education focused on research closely linked to its socio-economic environment, Chami pointed out at conference held under the theme « The New Development model at the service of the knowledge economy », as part of the 2021-2022 edition of the series of major conferences « Les Tribunes de Marrakech ».
Presenting the conclusions of the General Report of the Special Commission on the Development Model, in particular the section relating to the knowledge economy, Mr. Chami, also a member of the said Commission, stressed that the Kingdom seeks to establish itself as a regional hub for higher education, research and innovation, which requires a review of the mode of governance of Moroccan universities.
Moroccan universities are therefore called upon both to become anchored in their regions and open to the world and oriented both towards theoretical academic training and towards practical professional training, he said.
These universities must also be self-reliant by ensuring that they adopt a student-centered education capable of ensuring their integration into the labor market, he explained.
Mr. Chami recalled that the General Report of the Special Commission identified digital technology as an important lever for the rapid transformation of the Moroccan economy, stressing that it represents a real tool for change and development, hence the need to grant it a particular interest in order to create structuring and high-impact transformations within society.
« The acceleration of digital transformation is likely to profoundly transform the access and quality of public services, in particular in remote areas and thus be a tool for economic and social inclusion, » he underlined.
This is why Morocco must meet several challenges, including the upgrading of digital infrastructures and their extension to the entire national territory, the development of digital platforms for all services to citizens and businesses, the acceleration of the digitalization of the administration, and the training of skills in sufficient numbers, in order to ensure the implementation of the digital transformation project.
